I've just got a new frame with the (Hope) headset cups fitted and have started fitting the forks etc but the upper bearing seems too big to fit into the cup. It seems a fraction of a mm too big and will not slip into the bottom of the cup, the bottom one goes in perfectly.

I'm sure it's something that I'm doing wrong and have pretty much given up now. I'll take it into my LBS tomorrow but in the meantime can anyone suggest what may be wrong before I go at it with a hammer?

Somebody smacked the cups in too hard?

did you bend / score the cups putting them in ? What did you put the cups in with?

I didn't put them in, the frame came from the supplier with the cups fitted so I hope it was done with a proper tool.

Maybe although the headtube was well packed. Seems more likely to have been damaged during installation, it's an integrated headset so there's not much exposed.
