….. it's driving me nuts. Defragmented, Disk Cleaned up, Registry cleaned, made space by deleting some old files I never use. Still SLLLLOOOOOWWWW!!

Should I get it "cleaned"? Any ideas how much this might be? 🙁

download malwarebytes, update and run a full scan.
Could also try one of those online virus scanners (panda, i think)
Also download ccleaner and run a full cleanup after installing it, that gets rid of most of the unecessary dross.

Check the task manager and resource monitor, see what's using everything up.

Could be a hard drive/controller problem, causing the disk to go into compatibility mode.

    What Bigyinn said.

Uninstall any applications you're not using (Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel).

And stop cleaning your registry, it's not dirty.

On the subject of temp files, use TFC instead of CCleaner – it's more thorough and also safer.

    How big is your profile?

If you've got loads of stuff in 'My Documents' I believe it can slow things down…

Have you got loads of 'Sent Items' in Outlook? I removed half a gig from mine and it's improved the login time…

Get the cover off and get the hoover in there to get all of the dust out, especially round the processor and heatsink, this helped mine as the processor was overheating.

linux mint 🙂 or ubuntu and get the restricted extras so that you have stuff like video codecs for random stuff and the like

you go to the website, rip the cd and you can boot from install without loading anything to check that you hardware will run it (and it will)

then you can install as a dual boot so that you don't lose windows just in case you need it

then you find ways of not using windows!!!!

Good advice on a corporate network, largely irrelevant at home (unless you're running a home server or doing something really leftfield).

Holy crap, TFC just liberated a shade under 12 Gb from my machine! That's a lot of porn!

Use msconfig to identify and disable unnecessary startup programs.

Plus, what anti-virus package are you using ? If not Microsoft Security Essentials then consider uninstalling what you currently use and switching to MSE.
