Im using a virginmedia cable modem.
I want 2 computers to us the same internet connection ie both be online at the same time.

Do I just need a router as below?

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-DSLR4

    Then connect it up:
    Modem to router
    Router to computer 1
    Router to computer 2

    Is this right?

    Hi.
    I use Virgin media also.
In a word yes, the one you’ve linked would be fine, set-up exactly as you’ve said.
If you want to save some cash I’ve got an older Netgear wireless one you can have for £10. Its only 11mb on wireless but has 4 ethernet ports like the one you’ve linked.

I’ve recently put a 54mb wireless one in & noticed no difference whatsoever, presumably because my internet is only 10mb.

    Correct!

Not sure about ‘cable’ but you’d very rarely get 10Mps on ADSL and there are other factors like upload speed etc. that can affect your download speed so 11Mps wireless connection is fine for normal home internet use.

You’ll only notice the difference with file transfers between PC’s on the network inside the house.
