thought of using bits of old inner tubes but unsure about the adhesive to use without damaging the frame if i wish to remove.
    any other ideas?
    thanks

I use a cable tie on my fork with another cable inside it at 90 deg to stop it rubbing. Seems to work.

For just protecting the frame from cables and hoses I went to a firm that silk-screens signs and scrounged some off-cuts of a thickish clear permanent s/adhesive vinyl and just cut bits out to fit. You could get hold of some helicopter tape to protect the frame and use off-cuts of that where the cables and hoses touch the frame. On my bare steel Inbred I used a piece of inner tube wrapped around the chainstay and zip-tied to protect from chain slap.
