Can anyone recommend house insurance companies where you can add bikes on to the policy. Mine is up for renewal.

    Cheers, Ed

    How expensive a bike?

We use John Lewis Specialist – great cover for everything, free landlord cover etc, and bikes over £1k are charged extra, and a small fee for our canoes. Overall we pay £440, for 5 bikes north of £1k, 2 canoes, £20k away from home etc..

I have got mine with Admiral they allow you up to £20,000 worth as named products at no extra cost.

Pedalcover here. When my old (AXA) policy was due gave then a call and they were cheaper even with the bikes added 🙂

Another one for Pedal Cover here……

Do they actually include bikes, both in storage/on car and in use? I have approached a few over the years that have such statements – but exclude anything bike shaped…

+2 for pedal cover. if you’ve got over £6K’s worth of bikes they are hard to beat. also good if you have anything else that might count against you eg flooding risk / prev claims

I’m with Admiral too. My bikes are named listed items.

If you haven’t already decided to, do give Pedalcover a bell to discuss.

Very reasonably priced and cover seems great, though I’ve fortunately not had the need to test it out.

+1 pedalcover. Struggled to find equivalent cover for anything less than double their quote. Premiums came down second year too.

It covers storage and on car and apparently away from home use but only up to £2000 (well mine does). But you can add to it to bump it up for more coverage.

Another +1 for pedalcover, although they wouldn’t quote for buildings cover for me due to previous ‘escape of water’ claim (burst pipe), so IME I wouldn’t say they’re great with previous claims.

Their quote and ease of getting quote was outstanding though and I recommend them on that.

NFU Mutual. They’ve a rep for being a bit expensive, but I didn’t find that in the end. Got a discount for an auto-renewal policy and they were cheaper than the previous company.

Bikes over £750 added as named items.

We went for pedal cover and I will reserve judgement until the recent claim is concluded. Radio silence right now.

Interesting Mikey, I was a bit perturbed by the complete lack of anyone seemingly having claimed from Pedalcover. What’s the story there?

We’re with Pedalcover too so I’d also be interested to read about mikey-simmo’s account when he’s able to write about it.

Recently claimed on Pedalcover policy, crash-damage; rear mech, rear wheel and frame.
Just sent them a picture of damage plus URLs to replacements. Sorted within a couple of days. Paid in full. Slightly longer for the excess protection policy to pay out but both were fairly painless.
Just need to see what happens to premium at renewal date now…

Also with Pedalcover here (but never had to claim) moved from M&S a couple of years back after their changes made it ridiculously expensive to cover decent bikes.

Not sure if they still do it but Pedalcover mentioned a club affiliate type program when I first signed up whereby once your club is registered they get a bit of money for every new member that signs up and references the club name, if they still do it and you’re in a club worth checking if they have registered with Pedalcover for this.

We’re just about to go with Aviva as the other half works there and gets 30% off. With house and contents insurance and all three bikes named for around £2500 each, was going to cost us just under £350 for the year. Not sure if she has some sort of code she can pass about but i can always ask

Was with Pedal cover, now with Barclays (the mix and match policy direct from their website). Bike cover was £35 extra for all bikes up to 3.5k away from home (in locked building or locked to immovable object). Also includes theft while bike is in your immediate control. Barclays was £100 less even after I specified 0 excess everywhere I could.

Not saying pedal cover is a bad product (especially if you have high value bikes) but it was not cheapest for our situation. Also remember that excess protection policy is a single claim per year!

It lapses at either 1 year, or at the point that it’s paid out, whichever comes first.
i.e. You probably want to buy another one if/when it pays out, so the excess policy would then have a different renewal date to the main policy, which isn’t a major problem though.

PedalCover, been with them two years now and my renewal is due, I won’t even bother ringing around to try to negotiate a deal elsewhere because I’m happy with the price and service I get. Only £32 a month and the house is all covered as well as a large sum of money for the bike coverage too.
