I’m after a basic sea fishing kit to take on holiday for fishing from the beach / pier / cliffs. I haven’t fished for years but fancy a cheap kit for dabbling with. It looks like I can get a rod and reel from Go Outdoors for under £30, but ‘kits’ are available for a similar price.

Are telescopic rods any good? I’m not sure if they actually save any space If I go for a 3 piece rod. What length of rod? will an 1ft rod cover most bases?

Also multiplier reels are available for not much more than a front drag (Shakespeare Beta) – are there any benefits in the multiplier?

What strength line and what size hooks? I think a couple of weights (not sure how heavy) and some mackerel feathers and spinners should give me more than enough to have some fun.
