Back in the late 80s I was working part time for £2 an hour. The same job would pay at least £8 an hour now. I remember saving up £45 to buy some 501’s. Apply the maths and those jeans “should” now cost £180 today. But they “only sell for £85. The fact that I could buy better quality jeans for proportionally less money relative to earnings seems to escape many people.
I will never forget my grandmother telling me that when she started work she had to save every penny she earned for over a month to buy a pair of shoes.
