I’m moving into a house on Friday which has Linn sound hooked up in most of the rooms and outside. It’s also hooked up to TV’s which are wall mounted in the lounge/kitchen/bedrooms and there’s some sort of streaming device kicking about. All the speakers (there’s bloody loads of them!) are mounted into the walls/ceiling.

All of this (from memory) hooks up to a central panel in the kitchen.

I’ve been told by the owners of the building that “it’s not hooked up”. I know for a fact that it used to be before they redecorated and changed some of the lighting etc, so I suspect they just haven’t put all the wiring in the kitchen back together.

I’ve called a couple of Linn retailers in the area that specialise in multi room fittings, and there’s a guy coming round to take a look this weekend.

The thing I’m worred about is that I know absolutely naff all about multi room set ups. It’s not that I don’t trust the guy coming to look at it, but quite frankly, if he told me the whole house needed rewired I’d have no idea whether it did or not!

Just don’t want to get stung for hours of labour for something that is pretty straight forward.

Is there anything I can do to test the speakers/room wiring myself at the panel end?

(can you tell that I know absolutely nothing about this!!??? 🙄 😀 )

any help would be greatly appreciated just so that I have a rough idea of what’s wrong before I start paying for someone to tear the walls down………..

There’ll be physical cables presumably from the hub to all the speakers to power them so unless the decorators have pulled all the cabling out (worrying if they have) then I can’t see there would be much on an issue.

I’m assuming they’ve had to move the control system for some reason and just pulled out the multitude of wires. if so, then just pay the Linn guy soem money to put them back in again.

thanks breatheeasy. i’m hoping they just pulled the panel out when painting/installing other wiring etc, and the decorator/sparky just didn’t attempt to put it back together.

suppose i’ll find out on Saturday!
