I’m in Tokyo, specifically Hatsudai. I’ve run out of cash and the cash machines around here don’t take mastercard. Neither does the train ticket office. I’ve got a suica (travel) card but that has hardly any balance. Need to get to Narita airport in about 5 hours.

Is there a way out of this that isn’t a £150 uber?

I’m confused. Do you not have enough cash to draw from a current account to pay for ticket, or no card with which to do so?

You’re stuffed. You’ll have to train as a ninja and roam the streets of Tokyo as a vigilante, scraping together the cash to get home. Keep us posted.

Try selling your used underclackers to a Japanese businessman, I read somewhere they like that sort of thing

Many automatic teller machines (ATMs) in Japan do not accept credit, debit and ATM cards, which are issued outside of Japan.

The big exception are the ATMs found at the over 20,000 post offices and over 10,000 7-Eleven convenience stores across the country. These ATMs allow you to withdraw cash by credit and debit cards issued outside of Japan, including Visa, Plus, Mastercard, Maestro, Cirrus, American Express and JCB cards and provide an English user menu.

Hire a car through your hotel? Get hotel to charge you to top up?

Get someone to transfer some cash on to your card?

    You need Yen!

Had a card that had cash on it, couldn’t find an ATM that would accept it.
