Guess he got blown out of his nest last night. Mums on hand and feeding him. No cats sighted so far. No idea where the nest is. What’s best to do?

Cardboard box inside and hand reared until strong enough to fledge. My MIL always has random birds in boxes for the same reason.

Just pop him somewhere safe where his mother can get to him.

Do nothing. Leave alone and nature will take its course

If he’s being fed by his parents I’d leave him alone–fledglings can really thrive over the course of a day. Keep an eye out for cats and other predators.

Put some gloves on and popped him on the bird feeder with some padding so the cats can’t get him. Mums very busy feeding him.reckon he’s very nearly ready to fly – he’s giving it a good flutter. That’s all the help I’ll give – minimum intervention and hopefully nature will be kind. 😀

You should probably be aware that the evil geniuses that are cats can now climb!

^^^^agree the branches look idea for a cat look out post!
We recently had a Wrens next with chicks, so we were doing the Spring-watch thing, watching the adults bring food, filming them etc, but alas nature was also watching…the nest was quite low in a small tree/shrub, very well camouflaged, but a cat spotted it and no more baby Wrens ;(
Unlike the BBC we have no back-up nests!

Just been out to check on him and he was on the floor again. He was having a good go at flying and can get about a foot up. Cats now locked in and has got the grump. Fingers crossed for the little bugger!

If it all goes wrong, I’m doing a bird in a bird in a bird in a bird roast tomorrow, and it might help me get up to five.

In seriousness, good effort, hope the little dude makes it!

Think it’s normal for fledglings to spend a day or two on the ground. They can run and climb and will hide out in vegetation but they still need feeding by their folks and it takes a little while until they’ve got flying sussed. Cat would cheerfully have him for brunch given half a chance!

Yeah he’s made it to the big bush now so all safe and sound. Baby Bluetit.

I rode to a friends house where some starlings were nesting. I popped my 5/10s outside her door, a few moments later the babies started to fledge and one landed in my shoe (very cute). Friend’s cat got out and dragged another one into the house, meanwhile the adult birds are going mad outside. I grab a tea towel to rescue 1 bird from under the stairs, cat is still outside and other 2 babies are flapping away and climbing the drainpipe. We managed to get cat inside, babies onto roof and let nature do the rest. I hope at least one survived.
