My DX shoes have gradually be getting worse and worse.
Now they are really making the whole house stink.

Problem is I can’t dry them in the garage and it’s only going to get worse over the winter.

What do you do to get your shoes dry and stop that smell?

Washing machine, then dry after each ride in the house.

What is wrong with you people?

Can you use hot water and some kind of cleaning liquid? Get some bleach in there as well.

I had to soak mine in a dettol solution. Seems to have done the trick. They do take an absolute age to dry though.

Edit: worked for my pads too that were even stinkier.

Have been in the washing machine, but inside a pillow case.
Didn’t really improve things, and meant they had to stay in the house longer to dry.

I’m worried they will damage the machine if I chuck them straight in.

Put them in the sink, wash them, bleach them, dry them on the radiator.

It’s really not rocket science, it’s basic being able to look after yourself stuff…

Can’t get close enough to set them on fire!

Maybe I should just buy a new pair of shoes.

liberal sprinkling of bicarbonate of soda in them overnight every few months works for mine

using heat to dry them , like on a radiator, will make them stink, especially if they are shimano

Not if you wash them properly first.

How do you people manage your underwear?

    My wife does my underwear.
Thought it was going a bit too far asking her to wash my shoes aswell.

Bicarbonate Soda, good shout I’m going to try that.

weirdly all my shimano shoes went stinky, tried everything. They lived outside! Sidis have not started stinking, but at that price my feet should smell like roses.

Now in the garage, with bicarbonate soda in, let’s see how they are tomorrow.

    Any more suggestions?

Seriously, hand wash and soak for half an hour or so in a solution of antiseptic disinfectant like dettol, it does work.

Don’t use bleach – use Milton fluid. It’s less harsh but pretty much as effective.

Not much good for winter but when my helmet gets smelly I hang it out in the sun and the UV kills the bacteria eliminating the smell.
As for shoes…..the wife makes me spray them liberally with fabrizee!

wasn’t there that sort of microwave that ionized shoes?
only real solution is to rotate/wash so they don’t start stinking.
loads of talc helps quite a bit.
freezing them helps a little bit.
new insoles seem to get rid of most of the smell.

Plastic bag in the freezer- thought I might be the first to suggest that- dammit!
Worked a treat with my football boots and they were humming!
Cold kills the smelly bacteria apparently.. Used to put them in for a day or two at a time and the smell vastly improved.

I’ve used the freezer trick too with some trainers and it worked, Remember to take them out well in advance to using them.
