  • Help – Disk rubs the post mount, is this normal? what might cause it?

Just bought a second hand Fox 36 fork, fitted the wheel, with the disk still in it (as used on the previous forks) and no calliper attached to the fork. The disk is a Hope mono 6 floating rotor, so a bit thicker than normal disks.

The ‘arms’ of the disk knock against the post mount part of the fork as it goes round. Is this normal? (do I just need to get a less chunky disk) and if not, what might have caused it?

it’s the Hope rotor – they’re notoriously chunky.

People sometimes file a bit off their disk mount if they feel brave.

    hmm. is it 20mm axle?

there are 2 standards of spacer. 5mm of disc spacing difference it’s confusing. I had issues with a spacer doing this… new spacer fixed it.

yes, its a 20mm axle – where does the spacer go? is it somethng Fox can provide as part of the fork, or is it something I’d get from CK as part of the hub, or from Hope as part of the brake bits and bobs?

CK hub? Thats the problem. Well documented issue on here and MTBR if you do a google search.

one is wider. i seem to remember the 20mm is wider and rubbed the disc on my pikes. i ended up buying the other (non 20mm) on a 20 mm fork. or sometihng!!

indeed, CK hubs seem to sit the disk further out from from the centre of the hub. I have trouble geting PM calliper top move far enough laterally to not be out of alignment with a normal disk on a couple of forks (cannondale fatty and and older Fox) swap hub and problem goes away…

What size is the rotor? 185/205/225? If you want to get shot of it, let me know 🙂

@thomthumb – I get the problem without even the adapter fitted, so thats not whats causing it, but interesting info nonetheless, will probably need that once I get this one fixed

@doof doof – great, thank you!
You were spot on, it’s a strange issue between fat hope rotors, CK hubs and Fox 36 forks from 2008 and 9 it seems.

What a freak co-incidence of incompatibility! – damn! Guess its time to start shaving that leg …

(@xiphon the rotors a 205. Once Ive finished rejigging all my bikes I might have some spares, in a few weeks)
