    Hey, Kids.

I recently found myself driving gone of those handy Escort 55 vans.
Sadly, it has an open cabin. After leaving my bike in the back over night, I almost passed out from the oil fumes when I started out to the trails this morning.

Any DIY divider ideas to alleviate this issue? Would a blanket tied to the rear of the seat and the ceiling be sufficient or should I go for a wooden divider? My ingenuity is failing me.

Plywood screws angle brackets and some sealant.

You could try some simple 3mm ply and a bit of underlay. You’ll need some small fixing points on the roof/side and floor and bits of 2×1 will siffice, then screw the “panel” tot he fixing points et’ voila!

But then you can’t get in the back via the cabin so it’s a get out and wander to the back doors scenario..

But hey, works for my Van.

‘Bulkheads’ or ‘Fume Curtains’ are generally available for any van, but yours is pretty old so might be harder to find. Ebay and local scrappies probably your best bet.

    Ah! You men are champions.
    Many thanks!

Yes, druid. lube fumes is a bit bizarre in writing.. but that wee bit of oil sitting on the chain and seeping from my fuctsektors is taxing, to say the least.

Ah – thanks. I’m asking because I’m doing up a van and was swithering between Crew Cab style or something completely open. I hadn’t considered oil fumes as an issue.

I didn’t think it would be as bad as people had told me.. but I have a feeling you would sleep well if sharing the back with your steed. haha.
