Stick your helidrop photos up here!

Finally got round to uploading a few of my photos from my Canadian road trip – the heli drop ones have come out quite well! Click for bigness.

They will be replacing Octavias at trail centres soon.

liking the bottom one, though, how much processing have you done on it? Or is it the altitude plus a polariser giving the punchy colours (plus a Canon L lens perhaps?)

Wish I’d had my camera at hand when we saw a rescue chopper take off & reverse through the trees somewhere near Argentierre a few years ago. That was fairly awesome.

Helicopter drop-in for the Brompton brigade??

Must be old – just had to scan it from an actual photo!

No actual chopper, but here’s the top of ‘powerslave’ in Nelson, BC this past summer while visiting my brother (guy with the cap.)

They told me that this clearing was intended for chopper drops, though I don’t know how much that happens…we were truck dropped and then it was a nice ride, followed by push up the trail itself.

My 29er paradox (with mary bars!…they’ve since been replaced by some sunlines…)is on the left.

Probably the most engaging trail I rode during my coupla weeks there.

Bottom one has a bit of post on it, tho not as much as it looks like. Quite high altitude looking straight up so the sky was pretty blue. 17-70mm 2.8-4.5 Sigma lens on a Canon 7D, with no polariser.

That brompton photo is awesome (tho presumably not for who ever is getting rescued…)

I guess the beneficiary of the brompton helicopter was pretty happy to see it!! It was pretty amazing to see them put the helicopter down on Oxford Circus – I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it.

I’ve been thinking and it was probably 1992.

You lot and Banana should like this then. Retro documentary. Before they got patronising and over dramatic. STV has the whole lot.

He doesn’t seem to post on here much anymore, well I haven’t spotted his username. I assume you mean the all action hero Penrith MRT Doc?. Despite him posting the Heli rescue exploit he was involved in on Striding Edge, he appeared to be quite modest, considering the pics of his winter/ice climbing prowess I viewed on his Fickr.

This is the one Striding Edge, Helvellyn rescue . If you’ve ever been on Striding Edge you’ll appreciate that was a bit special.

takisawa2 – I think ours cost 280 CAD per person.

Whilst it was awesomely cool, the float plane trip we did was definetly cooler, both from the trail we rode and also from a remoteness point of view.

I’ve only ever been picked up by helicopter, never dropped off by one. 🙁 I need to try it the other way round, it’d make a nice change.

June 2006. Motorcyclist vs car RTC with head injury, land paramedics requested air ambulance to get the rider to specialist care. Photos taken at the playing field in Betws y Coed. Pillion passenger died at the scene.

I remember seeing that in ‘Emergency Services Times’ (trade paper), given the location that was a heck of a balancing act from the helo crew.
