    Excellent new OP.
I missed this thread first time round but have posted on similar ones. I’ve been experiencing an irregular heart beat for 6 years now. Mostly after a sustained hard effort on the bike or a sudden change in tempo whilst riding. It also seams to happen more the fitter I am. When it happens I lack power and feel particularly anxious.
I’ve been refereed to a specialist 3 times; electrocardiograms show nothing, and I’ve had no episodes whilst wearing a ECG monitor. I saw the latest consultant 2 weeks ago and yet again I was fobbed off as they didn’t think I was about to drop dead and told me just to take it easy on the bike. This time I insisted they take it further so I’m soon to have an implanted ECG monitor fitted which will stay in for up to a year giving it plenty of chance to catch an episode.

Another reason for needing to get a definitive diagnosis is that I’m self employed and about to become a father in a few months time and because I have seen the doctor about a heart issue that is not diagnosed the insurance companies assume the worse and will not offer me sickness or even life insurance. If anyone hasn’t got life insurance in place I recommend you do it now as once you have an issue its become expensive or impossible.
