Had an idea today in regard to stopping the shoes themselves getting stupid wet and rotting (THIS IS NOT ABOUT WET FEET SO NO MTFU COMMNETS!!)

Set of cheap overshoes cut so they fit over the ankle/shoe opening/tongue area/down the sides towards the sole.

Some press studs at regular intervals on the overshoes to secure them to the shoes.

This would negate the overshoes getting in the way of the sole

shit idea? Kindo of like making a Karver type lace cover but extending up a bit.

You could dip your feet in wax before you ride?

or MTFU and get some SPDs and MO80s

spds are for shite riders who NEED to be clipped to their bike 😉

Flat pedals are for crap riders who are scared of not being able to bail quickly 🙄

I’d get some urethane overshoes from Endura or the like, cut the soles out of the overshoes then either hot glue or use Seamgrip – ace stuff – to bond the overshoe to the sides of the outsole. Or get a shoe repair specialist to do it for you.

BWD – sounds like a plan, BUT i will look a bit odd in summer with overshoes on 🙂

Nikwax is near enough permanent – it soaks into the material – think waxed cotton, I don’t mean the nikwax proofing spray – I mean the original wax

Water will still get in by running down your legs. Much less than normally though.

Agree re gaiters. Simple and effective solution. I just lob some hillwalking gaiters on occasionally. They cover a lot of the shoe. and I did spray the shies with some repellent last Winter just before the Puffer. Seemed to stop them getting as ‘soaked thru’ as normal where they were exposed. Gaiters did the rest.

just buy a big roll of gaffer tape.

another idea might be to buy a pair of cheapish army surplus waterproof socks then cut the lower foot part off then wear over the boot top . Ok won’t stop immersion type ingress but should keep the worst of splashes/rain out .

Better to get some waterproof mid cut technical shoes and have them soled in Stealth Rubber.

After many attempts at having a go myself and failing every time, I’ve decided on this too. £30 from these guys, probably with an old pair of northface hedgehogs. Better than trenchfoot TBH.

Talk to Feetfirst in Chesterfield, they’re really clued up and have been there for yonks.

Liking the idea of decent, Gore-Tex lined mids with added Five-Ten Stealth soles for something I’ve lined up for next year which is going to mix up riding with a fair bit of mountain walking. Most approach shoes with sticky rubber are designed for scrambling rather than walking, so tend to have very little cushioning in the mid-sole to give something like edging precision. This sounds spot on.

maybe cheaper and more comfy ? but agreed similar idea . How about velcro to attach at the bottom
I’d like to have some hiking boots done in Stealth rubber but not sure if all boots are doable?
