Just brought a frame with a tapered head tube and headset installed for tapered fork.
I want to fit a 11/8th straight steerer fork so assume i just need to replace the lower cup and bearing with a reducer cup and bearing.
What are the best options for this – finding online searches confusing.
What the simplest/cheapest option for this?
    cheers

simplest cheapest is a shim to increase the bottom diameter of your 1 1/8 fork to 1 1/4. the crown race will swap from tapered to shimmed straight, and the fork should fit as the old one did.

Didn’t know shims existed for use with steerers..but prompted by nedrapier i just found this…

    http://www.workscomponents.co.uk/15×22-reducer-crown—for-fitment-of-1-18×22-forks-to-tapered-headset-245-p.asp

Would seem to be the cheapest, easiest solution – any reason not to?

Actually there’s loads of these available, but it’s a case of getting the right one for the headset…or something that’s going to fit right..no idea where to start on that one!

The Hope one above, it fits on the fork and the original crown race fits on top of it..

Cheers, that makes sense then, I was thinking it was a bottom cup.
