Headsets are one of the few areas if bike maintenance that do my head in!

I have a frame with a tapered head tube. From what i can work out, the upper has a diameter of 44mm and lower 56mm. I assume these are inside diameter measurements (I haven’t got the frame yet – still in the mail).

I want to use my 1.5″ steerer fork. I believe this can be done by using an external cup for the upper headset. Because it is not a standard 1.5″ head tube.

Does anyone know where I can get such a headset. I know that nukeproof warhead do the upper , but don’t sell it separately (it comes with the lower which is of no use to me because it is for a 44mm lower diameter. See link http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/au/en/nukeproof-warhead-44eeos-headset/rp-prod85870

Hope do mix and match headsets, but I can’t find the right upper.

Any suggestions. I am on a tight budget, and I don’t want to buy 2 headsets. Or buy new tapered steerer forks.

    Thanks.

I think the usual answer to this is to look at the hope doc re headsets – http://cdn.hopetechnology.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/HOPEHEADSETS2011Web.pdf

Sorry, I should have said that Hope supply pick N mix headsets http://www.hopetech.com/product/picknmix-headsets/#tech which hopefully should cover what you want. I’ve got one which allows me to use a standard fork in a tapered headset frame.

Yeah. I already checked the hope website (see initial post). Unfortunately they don’t do what I need. It would be a model “H” but for an upper cup. Not lower.

    Thanks for the link though.

You need EC44 – Hope do the lower, not sure why that wouldn’t work as an upper as you’ll just have an upside down logo and you’ll need the top headset gubbins. Should be doable though – maybe call hope or your local dealer?

I’m pretty sure Works Components do an EC44 upper too. Give them a call, they’re just showing angle sets online but I reckon they might be able to help with a standard.
