Following the replacement of my headset is it worth fitting a headset protector/headeset seal to keep muck out of it or would it be more likely to just keep the bearings nicely full of dampness and fine grit?

if your headset is sealed properly then no. This sort of thing just traps and concentrates crap.

That was my thinking (also I don’t really like the look of them)

plus they always get a layer of grit in them that wears aware paint on your fork crowns etc.
pointless crap from the 90’s when a seal was just a marine animal rather than something the bike industry used
