    Evening Gents,
My C456 has developed a very slight knocking that you can feel through the handle bars when rocking the bike front/back with the front brake locked on.

Ive tightened up the starnut, stem and bars, brake caliper and brake disc. Im guessing the only thing left is the bearing inside the headset? on one smoothie mixer.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Off for a ride now, so hopefully it will hang together for a couple of hours.

Pop the bike on to it’s back wheel and hold it on the brake
Turn the bars parallel to the top tube and rock it

That should isolate the play if it’s in the headset area

    fork bushings?

Or turn the bars 90° and then try rocking forwards/backwards again.
it gets round the brake pads moving a bit giving the impression of a duff bearing.

Both excellent tests. Just tried both and can still feel the movement. Guess its a bearing 🙁

Or you have slight play in the front pads, cheap pads,or non oe, can be slightly smaller in size, and can move in the caliper causing the knocking or free play you describe.

Did you adjust the headset by undoing the stem bolts before tightening the star nut? Lots of people just tighten the star nut without undoing the stem first… Does not work.
