  • Hay fever desensitisation – private immunologist (N of England)

    Hallo,

I have *bad* hayfever in grass pollen season. Taking maximum dose of several different antihistamines for weeks on end sort of bad.

I’d like to get desensitisation treatment – probably the modern-ish pollen tablets (grazax).

The NHS doesn’t really do that round here, so I need a private immunologist, and I have no idea how to choose one.

Any recommendations please? I’m more interested in recommendations for specialists than for specific treatments.

Local to Leeds or Manchester would be ideal but I’ll go to wherever’s necessary.

    Cheers

Most doctors can write a private prescription. It might just be best to go to your local GP as they will have your history rather than have to pay to go private. Any consultant will probably want to at do some blood tests before prescribing and you will have to pay for those as well.

You realise a course of Grazax is £3k, you could get a decent bike for that?!

    Thank you for the reply.

GP is unwilling to prescribe – wants to refer me to an immunologist.
