Still pretty sure he didn't I'm pretty sure that he won his last world champ on a Ritchey and then rode for BMW-Proflex while in the rainbow jersey... The reason I'm so convinced is that at the time there was a big thing about whether suspension was better than hardtail and Djernis' change to Proflex was the perfect situation to 'prove' or disprove...

one of the Oxford shops (cycle king i think) had a carboned proflex, think it was an 857, in the window for years marked up with the full RRP and then a "sale" sticker. They forgot to put the "10 year old bike" sign on it though...
Bit like the London Bridge shop with what must have been about the only production Pace full suspension frame at full RRP hanging on the wall for almost 10 years.
I don't even believe that Pace is for sale- if somebody tried to buy it I reckon the price tag would be whipped off quick as look at you.
