Bit difficult I know without photos but before I take it all apart am I right in thinking:

1. I may have an IS Cane Creek Integrated Headset. I have an original Specialized Allez Comp 2006 headset which is supposedly a mindset but has cane creek written on it (no other codes).

2. This would be compatible in another IS frame as the headset is fine.

3. I can probably tell when I take the headset apart as if an IS std integrated headset would allow for easy bearing removal and if a mind set requires a headset removal tool to take the bearings out.

I think you are probably right.
No experience of the Allez but the 06/07 S-works carbon HT has 46mm Specialized Mindset which requires pressing in, but the 08 frame has a48mm Campag Standard Mindset which drop in by hand.
All will be revealed on removal – sorry not much help.

Nope – just checked its a mindset – damn – bit stupid really but there you go – gonna get another decent headset now… Cheers Coleman
