The torch is coming to town tomorrow. I can’t go and see it (even if I wanted to) but the wife and kids are going. I have been put in charge of logistics. The idea is to arrive as late as possible, park easily, get a great view of the torch and get back home as painlessly as possible.

I know all towns and torch routes will be different but if it’s been to you already…

How much actual interest/disruption is this thing creating?
How early do roads close?
Just the roads on the route itself or adjoining roads?
How many people actually show up? one or two scattered along the roadside or are the masses ten deep along the whole route?

No and it won’t be… there would only be 5 people there if it did 🙂

Watched it come past my house in Worcester, huge crowds, roads closed (but not adjoining ones) but only briefly. Minimum of disruption to be fair.

We managed to get the free tickets to the cricket ground party, some 6000+ all of which were in good spirits, live music, free drinks and bits for the kids and I got to sit on the grass on the outfield and chill for a few hours in the sun, bliss.

Great event.

define disruption, if you mean arrive late, shut down half a town then yes there was some distruption, crowds etc.

Sorry but i really couldn’t give a t***, sport is for doing not watching, and the olympics seem to have lost any connection to the doing part, about money and politics.

Work with people who went to worcester and said it was crap, nightmare to get home etc., i guess different people and all that.

Yes we watched it come through our tiny village just outside of Bewdley….it was quick, but great to see so many people out! 🙂

Watching it when it comes through Canterbury. Don’t really care about traffic congestion as we’ll ride there through the woods. I can’t actually be bothered to be negative, takes too much energy and attention.

Wife and kids went down this morning. They left at 7:45, roads closed at 8:15. Torch was due to start in town at 9:40 and get to where they are just before 10am. Seemed to be running about 10mins late. They got a front row place.

Watching it on the webcast I’d say that the crowds were pretty deep near junctions, anywhere within 5 mins walk of a car park etc but if you wanted to you could find somewhere with just a few people dotted along the pavement.

The kids loved it. The wife loved the fact that the kids loved it (but wouldn’t have bothered herself).

Olympics are utterly amazing. And they’re here. We should enjoy it and stop EFFING WHINING YOU MISERABLE SADSACKS!

p.s. I agree the Olympics are amazing – every four years I get to watch the world’s elite in competition in a huge range of sports and always get drawn in to watching fascinating action in sports I’ve previously had no interest in.

But… watching the flame pass the front of Regency mill carried by someone I don’t know – even if they have an interesting/worthy/inpsiring reason to have been selected – is not, to me, the Olympics.

I realise this is proper miserable but this torch thing has been the most tedious aspect of the Olympics so far imo.

Olympics good, using every possible opportunity for a circle jerk not so much.

I cycled down to Ironbridge to watch it come through.
There’s not much parking at the best of times, so it disrupted Ironbridge. But its bad down there whenever its hot.
It was a little confusing as to when the torch was actually coming through, due to the amount of sponsorship floats and procession before it.
But I’m glad i went, doubt I’ll be part of such a spectacle like it again. Wish i’d taken my step daughter with me now.

Just come through Congleton this morning. Call be miserable, but I have no interest in it what so ever…
