How do you pick a coffee or can you recommend me one please?

I like to supplement the standard coffee with some of the more exotic flavours available in deli shops or coffee specialists. For example I’ve got a little bag of chocolate orange coffee which if you add a tiny bit to the pan along with some standard stuff gives a different cup every time. I also like Vanilla & Whisky flavour.

From my old gaggia you can get some great variation in flavours from their coffee, been using them for about 3 years. Sometimes I end with espresso too fruity for my tastes.

I’ve faffed about a bit to get a good crema and not too long a pour.

How do you pick a coffee or can you recommend me one please?

Pointless recommending one as I don’t know what you like. I find the descriptions on the Hasbean site are pretty consistent so once I find a few coffees I like its easy to order others I’ll like too. I started out with their 12 week subscriptions – a different coffee each week. Most were nice, some were fantastic, out of 24 bags in total there was only one I didn’t want to finish. I’d keep the empty bags and mark them as to whether I liked them or not. The ones l liked all had common key words in the write up, for me ‘caramel’ = win.

The consistency in descriptions is useful because each time you come to order (I order a month – 6 weeks worth at a time) most of the stock has changed so you usually can’t get many of the same beans you had last time but you can get something you know will be similar. So now I’ve stopped doing the sub and order four or 5 bags I like the sound of and a starter pack to get some randomness and perhaps a pleasant surprise.
