I’m going to repurpose my old Bizango following the failure of my commuter, but I don’t think the 780mm bars are going to be very helpful in traffic.

I’ve lost the original bar and stem, but I found an old Bontrager bar that I won at Bike 96. It’s an old standard clamp (25.4?) am I better off just getting new o/s bars because stems are hard to come by in that size and shimming, or am I risking my face?

I’m going to have to get a new, longer stem anyway, and I need to do it as cheap as possible.

I’d identify your location and find out what people have knocking about.

I’m in Chelmsford / London SE1 if that is of any use and I have some bars and a 100mm/110mm stem you can have and chop up as you please.

    Good idea!

I’m in cannock if anyone has some old school narrow bars and long stems they want to dispose of.

I’ll put something in the wanteds too.

If you need a new stem anyway then buy one that fits the bars. 25.4 stems are cheap as chips.

Not that shimming is a problem if you do it properly.

    Problem solved!

Found an adjustable 25.4mm stem in Cycle republic at lunch time for £4.50!

Not ideal because they look cack, but I’m not that concerned for £4.50.

You can get shims so you can get 25.4mm bars to fit 31.8mm stems. I used one for a year or so with out issue. I think they were by problem solvers.

Black Easton E30 stem. 5deg x 120mm. Logos worn off.

Black Easton E30 flat bars. 580mm wide. Logos worn off.

Black Race Face Evolve flat bars. 570mm wide.
