Im looking for a shim that i can use to shim a 25.4mm bar to a 31.8mm stem.
Does anyone know if such a thing exists and if so, where can i find one?

If no such thing exists, i have an old alu seapost shim that I can butcher. Good idea or will i die?

    Your thoughts please?

I've actually got one in use on some Cannondale flat bars. It came with them as far as I remember. Standard to OS as you require.

Try someone like SJS cycles. They do oddities.

Probably, but either buy a 25.4 stem or a 31.8 bar.

Thank you all for sorting out my inept search abilities!

Looking at the shim i have for the seatport, i reckon that should do the job, being a tightarse and all.

I use an Easton one too – works perfectly.

Have bodged an old seatpost shim for now, but have an Easton stem converter on order from SJS for £4.49, bargain!

I got some of these:Clicky clicky

They seem to work fine with my thomson X4 stem

personally I'd get hunting ebay for a bargain stem if you're going to be splashing cash

do you do sensible trails or anything that involves a fair bit of hammering the bike? £30 or new teeth, I know what mine would be

I fail to see how a correctly shimmed (bodge method) set of bars is any weaker than a purpose made shim which does the same job. All you're doing is filling up the gap between the stem.
I'll happily ride it until the proper shim arrives in the post.
My teeth are chilled about it.

I used a redbull can rolled up for exactly this for years, no problems at all, still have all my own teeth etc!

Thank you! Im all for using the right kit to do the job, but just because its come out of my shed, doesnt mean i'll need a face transplant after riding to the shops.
As long as the bars are clamped securely across the width of the stem cap they'll be fine surely?
