The level in of engineering in the hovercraft seemed more like Heath Robinson my shed than the efforts of the previous weeks that included home made ovens and beatiful welding…
And fond memories of the Galloway Sailing school from two glorious seasons working there.

That was awesome when they repaired the bars with a bit of ally oar handle

Forgot it was on. Still, now I’ve got fibre broadband own loading programmes is no longer an excercise in teeth-grinding frustration waiting what seemed like days for a download.
    I’ll watch it later.

All hovercraft seem to be made that way. There’s a hovercraft museum near me with examples from the experimental stuff in the 50s up to the cross channel ones. Even the military ones seem to be made from spare parts and nans old drawers.

They look great fun but not sure I’d want to go anything like that fast in a flying bathtub!

Pics of weird and wonderful hovers here including a pedal powered one built by an ancient mariner with impressive whiskers!

Yeah, I too thought this weeks Programme lacked a certain amount of professionalism.

Couldn’t understand what the RM bit was in the first part, seemed to add nothing to the journey, then to beef up an F1 shell into a world record beater just seemed to lack both planning and, planning.

But still, “fair play” Guys got bigger balls than I have and I love the programmes…

    Still gets a 😀

Fantastic, it’s a low key, enthusiasts sport, hence the lack of F1 style engineering, carbon fibre etc.
He didn’t get the world record, but broke the UK one so got a result, fair play for trying to carry on after the near flip over and for calling it a day when it didn’t feel right.

I thought that was the point of the programme.
hacking the oar down to size was unbelievable though.

I like these shows because they are amateurish – they could have thrown a million quid at it and made a jet-powered 200mph hovercraft, but that’s not in the spirit of the thing.

They would have been “Up a creek, without a paddle” without it…. Boom Boom (as Basil Brush used to say) 😉

Great program, but wow, He was lucky not to get hit in the face by the exploding lift fan, as he had his visor open at the time………

The 2 guys who were ‘professionals’ made me smile. Their attitude was ‘rather him kill himself than us’. I defo got the feeling they’d not put a massive amount of thought into it. Other than that they weren’t doing it.

What the hell did indoor parachuting have to do with anything though?

Can’t help thinking last night’s episode was rather clumsy compared to some of the others, has the format run out of steam?

And I’ve said it before, but I can’t help thinking Guy Martin is now doing a bad impression of Guy Martin. Overused catchphrases, and I hate the way he has to repeat everything twice like a young Fred Elliott.

Other than that, mega program. I say mega program… Lass.

I thought the last Speed series went the same way, by the last program all he did was turn up and ride. I guess he either has too much on or too little time.

I bet he doesn’t spend much time on forums moaning about other people.

    Top job, top job.

to give you some perspective, the tandem episode was 12 days of filming and 4 months of training compressed into 45 minutes of footage. It might have appeared that we’d also just turned up and rode the thing after messing about in a lab for a few minutes. One comment the other week was that we’d apparently tested the tandem at Castle Combe for 5 minutes (we did a 6 hour ride that day).
In actual fact, there’s this thing called “editing” which avoids the programme being several months long…

He has said (maybe in those C4 shorts) that he’ll always do 3-days a week as a truck mechanic. Doesn’t exactly leave him with a lot of time what with his summer of road-racing too.

Just watched this. While I usually enjoy Guy doing his thing, this week’s episode really did seem to scream of a 30 minute show stretched out to an hour….or rather, an hour show with too much time allotted to odd things.

Royal Marines bit was ok…..but the hot yoga/parachuting bit?

I enjoyed it, and I think the sign that was at the Southampton hovercraft meet was quite appropriate under the circumstances.

Something along the lines of ” To play football, hockey, rugby, cricket etc. You only need to turn up with one ball…..’

Hovercraft show maybe not the best. Pikes Peak Race programme really impressed me. He beat his main rival on an under-performing bike on his first time at the mountain. GF very taken now with Mr Martin and he in now on her “Famous Five” list. (FYI 5 famouses you can sleep with), I said she had my blessing,I’d borrow his Orange Five while he was round ours…. . The part when he finally goes and gets to find out he has actually won his class make me cry (Hey !, he did!) when I watch it.

I thought it was brilliant. Despite it being less ‘professional’ than some efforts.

Excellent entertainment from a bloke who grows in my estimation each time.

Reading his book gives an insight into some of when he bailed this week. Despite racing the TT at god knows what speed year in year out, he never thinks of the danger, because to him, it’s not a danger, there’s no risk as he’s within his comfort zone.

    Massive massive balls.
