With regard to Neil Young, check out him playing on ‘Mirror Ball’ with Pearl Jam as well as ‘4 Way Street’ live album with Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Saw NY with Mirrorball at Reading in ’95. Still wear the tee shirts!
One of my all-time favourite guitar solos is an obscure one in a rather unlikely place; on an Alison Moyet single, Love Letters. There are two extra tracks on the CD single, Ne Me Quitte Pas, and This House, which ends with a really quite amazing, woozy solo, with lots of whammy bar note bending and echo. Sadly, the version that’s on her Greatest Hits is an edited version, without the solo, which is a terrible shame.
[edit] Apparently the cd is rather rare, it’s going for £22 on Amazon!

How about a bit of Ezio? Amazing live – just two blokes on two acoustic guitars.

Randy Rhodes was a genius- technically brilliant but he knew when to fretwank and when not to. Something sadly not that common, most guitarists seem to think more notes is always better. Quite a lot of the suggestions in this thread just do nowt for me.

    Favourite of mine…

Solo starts at 3 minutes, play it in from 2.45. Don’t really like the vibrato but otherwise, love it.

Gob smacked no one has mentioned Andy Timmons yet. Or Adrian Legg for that matter. Or Mattias Eklund or Paul Gilbert.

Nuno Bettencourts solo in Get The Funk Out is probably the greatest solo of all time IMHO or maybe Brian May on It’s Late. Both utterly perfect for the song.
