Whats the weight difference between a set of 2008 LX cranks and a set of 2010 XT set of cranks.

Not including BB, rings or chainring bolts

I know the answer – want to see if you do 🙂

Think I've dragged it out enough….

6 grams. Yes that is 6 whole grams.

(LX – 604, XT – 598 according to my kitchen scales)

What a fantastic upgrade….I suppose I can claim they feel 'stiffer'

Yeah, but the XT will last much longer. The LX crankarms were made of a special blend of Brie and Camembert and shed pedal threads like autumn leaves.
The weight difference is the harder metal in the alloy. The M760 probably wasn't much lighter once the crappy alloy rings had been replaced with decent ones.

Got the XT's second hand so not RRP but still about £10 a gram. Not the best value for money!!! LX cranks have lasted pretty well, maybe I treat my stuff well, only swapped as I wanted XT on them.

LX ringsset weighs 166g, XT 158g so another 8gs there (though they are single speed at mo)

    I've also weighed my m960 crankarms – 538gs.

    I feel conned

I've often extolled the virtues of not buying kit any higher than XT for trail riding, I didn't realise that weight difference up to XTR was so little where it counts.
So SLX is where it's at.
If you want light weight, get some TA rings, and save yourself a fortune.

Agree seems no point in getting XT. SLX or XTR if your minted.

I seem to remember being similarly disappointed when I swapped the shifters from LX to XT, just a few grams, couldn't spot any difference in actual use.
