Want to swap my cleats over to the warmer winter shoes, but one bolt has rounded and is stuck fast… don’t have any tools apart from a hammer, screwdrivers and allen keys, might have some WD40 as well… suggestions please? 🙂

buy a new set of cleats, so you don’t have to bother?

You could force in a slightly larger torx bit, and unscrew it.

shall try this, after a dose of WD40 I guess… wish me luck!

You need to borrow a drill.

Any access to a drill? If you’ve rounded a cleat bolt out then using a 6mm drill will let you get the head off, and will leave a short threaded shaft in the shoe plate. Use some molegrips to turn the threaded shaft and it should be straightforward to remove. Would need a new bolt to refit the cleat though.
Alternative, someone on here sold me a new set of cleats for not a lot (half RRP) a couple of weeks ago.

Heat – if you can without setting the shoe on fire. Cigarette lighter?

I’ve had the same problem and a torx bit took it out easily.

When I had this issue I cut a horizontal slit in the bolt & managed to use a flat headed screwdriver.

Not much use right now but having had to drill the cleats out of my winter boots in the past I now use Copaslip and after winter i clean and dubbin my boots and give them a soak with WD40. Then as winter sets in i re-Copasip them.

Shimano winter boots are too expensive to give up on & them cleat bolts take some drilling!

hammering in an allen key worked for me
