    Bought one of these:

    Pedros Pro Chain Tool 2.0

    and one of these:

Gusset Bling Slink Half-Link BMX Chain (1/8")

I kind of assumed a 'pro' chain tool would do all types of chains, but I've just gone to use it and it appears not?

Have I bought the wrong tool for the job? 🙁

I had the same problem – the link pin is too long on the slink chain. I ended up pushing it most of the way through with some mole grips and a right pain it was too.

could shorten it ok with a Park tool chain tool, though.

No you don't, but you do need a tool that will take both 3/32" and 1/8" chains. That tool will only doo 3.32" by the look of it.

    why does it not work?

though Park do an 1/8th specific tool CT-7

If that does not work, I presume the links are to small you could probably fashion a bodge piece of mild steel replacing the bit that holds the chain as they can be unbolted if you understand.

The chain doesn't 'slot' into the holder properly, I guess 'cos it's too thick? There's no way to adjust the tool is there, something I'm missing? It's a 1/8" chain btw (edited my original post 😳 )

I bought one of these way back in the 80's – fits most chains. A snip @ $9

isn't it just a matter of getting a different thrust pin for the tool ?

[edit] oh I see, wrong width not different pin…
