Fly spray (Asda’s own) works pretty well as I found out last night when I discovered the lack of hairspray in my cupboard.

    Any other alternatives.?

    er… lock on grips?

When using non-lockons (yuk) I used meths – slides on easily then evaporates quickly. Never had a problem with the grips slipping.

Grip shift on the nippers bike which was an absolute arse to re-cable.

Spray mount – don’t spray it on the bars though as it dries too quickly and you’ll never get them on. Spray it inside the grip and it’ll stay tacky long enough to slide them on.

Just use one of the lock-on clamps – that’s all I ever use. For gripshift use the outside one.

GT85 works perfectly, to loosen and to fix.

2nd Spray mount, I use 3m stuff. One can does about 30 pairs of grips, on like concrete. GT85 undergrip dissolves glue for easy removal.

I find plain old spit works extremely well, the more mucus the better IMHO.

GT85 works better than hairpsray for this.
Neither are as good as lock on grips though.

    Also depends upon the grips..

.. have currently got Scott Contessa (Womens) grips fitted on two of the girls bikes – both are alipping despite trying hairspray and 3M spraymount, (cleaned bars first with sticky stuff remover).

Am now trying super glue but realise that’ll probably mean cutting them off if I need to remove them..

Contact cleaner, followed by Renthal grip glue if they’re baggy (this is very rare though)

Renthal grip glue. I wish Renthal would make kevlar lockons though, their kevlar non-lockon grips are the best by a mile.

Designed for MX, you’re unlikely to get the grip off without destroying it but no chance of it slipping.

    Yes.

I use grips instead of hairspray.
