i have an ancient garmin etrex that is past its sell by date and i’m thinking that i might look for a more modern map based gps in the sales after xmas, can anyone recommend any good units to look for?

i’m not necessarily interested in any bike functions, just something i can load routes into and follow.

Etrex 20x or Etrex 30x would work fine. They are loaded with OSM maps as standard. And does all the usual stuff for following routes etc. Go for the 30x if you want to connect it to a heart rate monitor or cadence sensor. Amazon recently had the 30x for £120 in a lightning deal.

Or Etrex Touch 35 if you prefer a touch screen (but shorter battery life).

Just bought a Garmin Oregon 600 – I already have an Edge 800 but the smaller screen makes navigation difficult, particularly in bright sunshine.
