    Oh dear oh dear, apparently the current satellites are wearing out and not being replaced quickly enough 🙁

    And then there’s the small matter of the US Army and Marines knowing where the hell they are as they trudge through Afghanistan’s Helmand Province in search of poppy fields and Toyota-trucking terrorists.

    This fact means that one way or another there will be a solution in place… of course, whether that’ll mean that non-war zones – eg the UK – will be unaffected is a separate issue…

    selective availability was turned off in the first Gulf War so troops could use cheap commercial GPSs, and is unlikely to be reinstated. The satellites are in quite low orbits and pass all over the planet.
