  • GPS Dog Tag?

Afternoon, can anyone recommend a GPS tag for a dog collar? Something small and not too expensive so after a walk I can plug into laptop and upload to Strava / Garmin etc. Be nice to see what sort of “mileage” our Border Terrier does.
    Thanks.

I did this a few years ago, I used a Holux GPS plotter, which I got quite cheap on Ebay. They seem a bit more expensive now????

When I was on the bike the dogs did about 50% more than me.

After losing our BT for an hour this week (he went off into the woods like a guided missile after something) I’ve been looking at these. £40-50 including a phone app to see where they are on a ride.

I’d thought about doing the same but my issue is the increased hazard of catching on something, especially if they bolt down a hole or into the undergrowth.

tonyg2003, which ones are you looking at for £40-50? Iv’e only seen £80 plus, but they look a bit bulky. Cheers.

This one looks a small, cheap option.

    £25 on Amazon

Actually thinking of a cheap or used gps watch and modding the strap! Maybe an old Garmin Forerunner!

I spent ages looking at trackers for dogs and landed up getting one of these:

    http://www.traccauk.com/tracca-dog/

A lot of the trackers will only use 3g data services but the Tracca one also works on 2g and also without a data signal at all.

There’s an app for the tracca collar but you can also just call the mobile number and it will text you back the map coordinates in a format that google maps uses. The battery life is extremely good – the only downside is that the GPs unit needs to be zip tied into the rubber mount as it can pop out if the dog runs through undergrowth.

I used a sim from anywhere sim that roams across the uk networks – so far we haven’t found anywhere it could t get a signal on one network – the £60 a year pre paid “annual sim
Lite” sim has more than enough texts and data included (our dog runs off – – lot!).

I-gotu GPS logger. Ive been using a gt-600 for years for logging rides, way before strava…still going strong with excellent battery life. Reckon the smaller cheap gt-120 would do for dog tracking at £40…
