    Hi,

As title. Anyone know if the roads in and around the Goyt valley (Peak District) are safely driveable at night at the moment?

    Cheers for any help.

Absolutely fine. Largely dry. Where water’s run on to the road there are icy patches but these are few and far between because it’s been dry for a while. Long Hill is gritted anyway

Do you mean like over Pymm Chair, and the one-way road up towards the Cat ‘n Fiddle ?

Well, they’re not going to be all that different to most other hilly roads in the UK. Sure, there are some steep sections, but again, nothing that makes the Goyt/Fernilee region any more, or less safe than other hilly regions.

Is there anything in particular that worries you, or are you just being generally cautious as it’s winter ? If it’s the latter, then it’s good that you care (lots of people don’t) – have you considered getting an additional set of wheels with winter tyres on ?

Hi @diskjockey. Was asking because planning to meet a mate in one of the carparks by the reservoir, for a night ride. Wasn’t sure if the roads in would be a bit necky to drive down since they’re pretty steep and may be icy. So just being generally careful.

Depending on where your planning to ride, have you considered parking at Derbyshire Bridge?? It’s the road on the left just after you’ve passed the Cat & Fiddle as you head from Macc to Buxton.

It’s a lot easier to get to in that you don’t have what seems an age of diving down narrow lanes to get to it. It’s a good base for a classic Goyt – Buxton – Taxal – Goyt loop. You can head to 3 Shires and over to Macc a Forest and not far from some nice cheeky

Entirley valid point – Goyt Valley seems ice-free, Macc Forest on the other hand had some long stretches of sheet ice on some of the little lanes at the weekend. Was amazing the difference between the two, the were a couple of sections I had to walk in Macc Forest (on the bike, obviously, not in a car!)
