After a clunk and bash around lee quarry, I think I might be needing some new cables. Are the Gore sealed cables worth the money?
Is this a job for a bike shop to fit with them being sealed?
Final ?...how much would supply and fit come in at?

I have them, I think they are fantastic. Fairly easy to fit just follow instructions and make sure you have good cable cutters.

yes they are

Yes. Super smooth for a long, long time.

The original ones, yes. I'm not convinced by the new ones. After a year, they felt heavier to shift than xtr. So bad that I actually got a refund on them. Yes, fitted properly before anyone asks. Maybe I just got a dud set.

Easy to fit, gore site has a video that proves it. Only had them for a couple of days, seem pretty good so far....

No, their rubbish, the coating on cables splits and wears away and crap can still get in. Get powercordz cables and sealed ferrules, Much better option I've found.

Onzadog +1, my last two sets probably didn't even make 5mths between them, gave the other set away as it wasn't worth the hassle of fitting them.

How much are they? Not cheap I imagine. I can't see them being better value than 10m SP41 and Fibrax inners at 94p each in Wilkos right now!!!

£40!!!!
That buys enough cable as above to do at least 5 pairs of cables on my Inbred! I get around 18 months a set out of that, so Gore would have to last 7.5 years to be comparable...

I had a set about 10 years ago. I was very impressed for about 18 months / 2 years or so, then the coating on the cables started to fray and peel away as long strands within the outer sheath. Never bothered with them again.
However, I have been using Transfil Flying Snakes for over 2 years with no problems. These are also a fair bit cheaper than the Gore cables. Just be careful which Transfil kit you order as there are several different options. Go for the top dollar kevlar version.

I considered them but they seem over priced so I went for XTR cable with SP41 outer. Very happy with my choice.

XTR seem too expensive for what is essentially cable and outer and exposed to the elements. Why is the XTR cable so much better than a normal shimano inner and outer. I know its coated but does it make that much difference out on the trail.

SP41 and teflon coated inners, change every 18 months or so. Personally I find full outers a bit draggy, but hey, whatever floats yer boat

My next cable experiment will be xtr with the seals taken out, sleeve over the exposed sections and then all joints sealed with heat shrink. Faff i know, but I like playing.

I run full length SP41 outers and they're slicker than anything I've run before and should stay that way longer.
