My 3.5 year old gore phantom is delaminating on the chest. Is this normal for a jacket of this age? As a replacement I was thinking of a non membrane type of jacket that has the same water repellency, warmth and breath ability as the gore wind stopper, any suggestions? ( I quite like the rab sawtooth )

    Thanks

    Buy another Phantom.

Send it back – Gore will probably replace it.

I haven’t found anything better than the Phantom; mainly for it’s versatility, with the option of being able to remove the arms a huge bonus in the warmer months (whenever they may be).

As for sending it back to Gore for repair or replacement: When I enquired about this, when my zip went, the period they were quoting for repair and/or replacement was too large (2 weeks) as I used it everyday and it was my only jacket.

In the end I found a cheapish Phantom II on Ebay (I think, may have been Amazon) and bought that instead.

3-4 years seems about right for these type of jackets. they all seem to lose their wind proofing eventually.
