Is there any way to fit a gopro adapter onto my lumenator 2000 light? I have a bracket with my new helmet and prefer to use that with the light, would need to get a bracket that can screw into the light and then clamp on. Anyone done this?

Picked up one of the Halfords £20 Bell lids the other day to replace an ageing 661 Recon that I keep as a spare specifically to have a light attached for night rides.

Can’t stand the huge plastic strapped mounts you get with a lot of lights so thought I’d try to make something to tidy it up using a GoPro mount. Still only going to be used for night rides but nice to be quickly removable if needed, it’s also a lot lower profile than the original mount so hopefully a bit more stable and less likely to get caught on branches etc. Also by chance found some lurid green plastic to match the lid!

Bonus points if anyone spots what the adapter was made from…

Isn’t there a little Lupine adapter that screws onto lights like that and then fits onto a GoPro mount?

Probably a divvy question but does that mount just glue to the helmet? And I so, is that ok with ‘never stick owt to a helmet’ rules/advice/fearmongering or does GoPro stuff not count?

There are a few companies that make similar things, just couldn’t find one that was exactly what I was after or a asking a stupid price.

The mount clips into one of these curved sticky mounts… which seem to be widely used on crash helmets.

If you can tap the light or something attached to it with a camera thread, K-edge do a nice 1/4-20 adapter:

Lupine make a mount for the wilma. Bike24 had them in stock & I’ve used on on a mtb batteries lumenator.

I looked into some of the tripod/camera mounts but didn’t really want to tap the light body to a bigger thread.

The Lupine mount would need quite a bit of cutting to make it work but could be a good starting point. Problem with my light is the wire comes out of the bottom so needs a channel cutting to let the body sit flat without crimping the wire.

Mount was made out of a snapped handle… no bonus points for anyone unfortunately.

I’ve got this Gemini light, and that little mount bit attaches with a single screw, so I guess
    I could do something similar?

Yup, that is exactly how my light originally attached.

I tapped my light and used the mount part off this ,and the bolts, cheap as chips fits mint !…

The cable on mine comes out at half past 4 rather than 6 o’clock, so I should probably be able to get away without cutting. Can you recall off the top of your head who else made them? I’ve seen the Lupine and K-Edge ones so far.

That looks tidy, still don’t fancy tapping the body though if pos.

Does that make the light sit on top of the mount rather than behind it? I was looking to get the light mounted as low profile as posible.

reed speed, do you mean you tapped an existing screw thread, or a completely new one?

    jamesfts

I’d imaging tapping the existing to take a larger thread.

Ok. Not sure I fancy doing that.

I tapped another one !, so its fixed on 2 points as I used the go pro part of the mount off that bracket on ebay in my link, its only £4 kwid, them k edge are £20+ to do the same job, I utilised there bolts too, its m4/5 if I remember, its not a big job or too fiddly either, as the light body is only ally, it makes a very neat compact mount onto the helmet, as the last thing you want is a great big thing sticking up off ure head..

Do you think it would work just screwing one end of it to the light unit? That’s all the Lupine mount does. Could use a bit of adhesive or something tacky along the length of it as well?

The other thing I wondered is whether a section of this might be able to be bolted to the light, perhaps with some rubber washes in the slots to keep it sturdy?

Since in my case I would need to buy a sticky bit and mount anyway and this comes bundled with them? Maybe too much of a bodge though?

I’ve bought one from your ebay link – worth a try for £4!

Where’s good for buying a GoPro mount?

I made a universal adaptor that’s basically a little bit of handlebar attached to a gopro foot (I call the flat bit that sticks to your helmet the shoe, and the foot is the thing that goes in the shoe, for clarity). It’s not the most elegant but it’s very adaptable.

More recently I built an unadjustable one that’s literally just the gopro foot, a small wedge for angle (which is a bit of wooden clothespeg), and the light- it’s glued and bolted together for strength, using a shortened bolt (which IIRC was a 224 evo mech hanger bolt I broke). Unadjustable but as low profile as it could possibly be.

Well, here’s my solution. 1x GoPro Side Mount Kit (£12), 1x 20mm M4 Posidrive bolt, some thin M4 washers.

The washes stop the 3 prongs of the mount squeezing together. 2 min job! Mount kit was £12 from CRC, which is ok given that Id have needed a sticky thing anyway.
