I can think of a great application for these [sailing] if they can accept wireless data. Will be really interesting to see if these become a reality this year.

Why the **** would I want to look like a Treky and why the **** would I want a smartphone interface in my vision 24/7?

Spent my whole childhood being called four eyes, why would one want to go back to wearing glasses all day? Didn’t anyone tell good glasses are irritating.

Not sure there’s a law saying you have to wear them 24/7?

But this would be amazing for producing little family films for posterity.

Got some old cine film stuff from my toddler years that brings a tear to my eyes every time I see it

    I don’t cry, obviously. Im a bloke.

A jazzed-up version of Steve Mann’s work on “sousveillance” at MIT. Still, if it goes mass-market, it presents an interesting continuation of mobile phone cameras and the ways in which they have been used for political ends, new modes of information gathering, and so on.

As was commented on Twitter, it’d be funny to sidle up next to a wearer and say “Google Glass, show me midget porn”.

I for one look forward to the first court case where some prat wipes out a family on holiday and a couple of cyclists because they were taking photos to be uploaded to Facebook while playing farmville and try to blame their glasses for not having 3g

Anyone noticed how “Yeah, I saw it on your Facebook” is a massive conversation killer? I have to pretend I haven’t seen someone’s photos / ‘shares’ for them to actually talk about their experiences. I much prefer their story-like interpretation of their experiences to a snippet of text and an image of ‘I did this lol’.

It’s exciting technology, but the social media applications are socially boring in my opinion.

These could be amazing for cycling though, not only a great perspective for video footage but HUD speed/distance/HR etc. and mapping (linking to your smartphone so no giving Garmin more money for their shite products). Although at $1500 you wouldn’t want to scratch them let alone faceplant and I’d guess they might not be well sealed in v1.0 guise (also no clue on battery life).

No-one here will get any at $1500. Only a very select few will be chosen at this point.

They will be *much* cheaper when they are a reality.

Hours of footage of browsing STW could soon be available on YouTube, just think of the fun you could have watching someone else browse your posts, the opportunities are endless, endlessly dull!

Cool gadget though, I was playing with an Andriod powered Samsung camera yesterday, sort of cool, but sort of all the features of a phone/tablet without being either, like things are almost there but not quite.

The worlds becoming a very odd place.
Just think, walking through London, Following the route in the satnav overlayed on the real world, you get a commentary that only you can see and hear of the places you’re walking past, the famous people who are there, the wiki information, you can take phot’s and videos, blogging to no one at all but feeling really important as you do it, the (and this is the bit that’ll drive you to throw the glasses at a passing bus) products you can buy via endless sodding pop ups and sound bites.

Actually, If they did that, I’d spend all day walking around soho….

I’m not at all sure the human brain can cope with all the information as it comes constantly. of course I’ll be fine, but I know people who can’t find their arse with both hands.

They’ll be more useful than Twitter though – I really don’t understand why non-famous people bother actually tweeting (rather than just stalking famous people). Nobody fricking cares about your mundane existence! :p

you’re old and thinking like an old person,

in 1991 i was (10) i used to dream of a screen or something of that description i didn’t have a name for it, that would allow just me personally to cross things off the school blackboard without disturbing what was there for everyone else, i guess that was augmented reality of some description, maybe id read something in the media?

^^ that is thinking like a kid, the type of thinking that is needed to move the world on

old people, set in there old way, hating change, will not move technology on

google glass? i’d buy them, maybe even at $1500

There’s no glass in ’em though.
