    Hi all,

I’m staying in Ambleside for the next few nights and was hoping to venture to a few pubs. The more rustic and traditional the better in my mind. None of this wine bar’esk rubbish.

    Cheers

the brotherswater inn on the other side of the kirkstone serves a fantastic pint of cumberland ale and usually a nice guest ale too.

try the lamb henry while you’re there too.

The Golden Rule? Just avoid Churchills and you’ll be alright.

    +1 Golden Rule.

It’s a Robinsons pub, but the beer is always decent and it’s a proper no frills drinking pub. Spent may a good night in there.

Absolutely agree, and there is no chance you are getting over to Brotherswater in this weather anyway! The Kirkstone Pass is, I think, still closed (the pub up the top of there is actually pretty good too).

I would also venture into the Royal Oak as I have had a few good nights in there over the years!
