    Good XC Frame?
Good Dirt Jump Frame without circular top tubing?

If you could post the price of the frame that would be great

    Cheers 🙂

For XC you won’t go far wrong with a Sanderson Life

Sanderson Breath – ace bike, nippy and pingy feel to the ride. Nice paint and ace finishing. Cheaper than an On-One at the right place (TheBikeChain) at the moment…

    without circular top tubing?

That seems like an odd characteristic to look for? How come?

If it’s a dirt jump bike I like rectangular top tubing because I think it adds more strength to the frame, I could be totally wrong though and aesthetically it looks better than circular tubing. Like a Santa Cruz Jackal or Scott Voltage TMO 2012

But circular tubing is pretty adequate I suppose

You’re definitely “right” on one thing.

    Bit catty : P
Okay but i do think it looks better even if it doesn’t add strength

SC Chameleon might be a good option.

Ellsworth Specialist? There’s one on ebay at the moment

Unsure about how it would perform for XC duties though, probably depends on your height. There pretty light though.
    I’ve just finished building mine

Not sure whether you’re after one frame or two?

If you want one do-it-all frame then I feel duty bound in best STW it’s-what-I-ride-so-it-must-be-good style to mention the BFe.

Round tubes but with a shorter (100-120mm) fork should be just about steep enough for jumpy stuff and just about light and long enough for XC stuff. Also has the bonus of being strong as.

ok the BFe looks amazing…thanks for recommending, but can I ask if I were to buy a BFe how much would it set me back?

    Cheers Rob : )

And the Santa Cruz Chameleon looks super sexy too :s

    Thanks sambob

a Santa Cruz Jackal or Scott Voltage TMO 2012…

I can’t really afford the Scott and the 20mm thru-axle is kinda annoying for compatibility but the Jackal is nice, but I wanna know what else is out there first.

Square tubing can be stronger/stiffer than a round tube for a given dimension. What it’s less good at is strength to weight.

Where square tubes are good is in places where a dimension is restricted (eg you don’t want a wider top tube so you can’t just use a wider diameter round tube).

    For the geeks http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/aircraft-design-aerodynamics-new-technology/3372-round-vs-square-tube-strength.html

Mind you, add in twisting (as happens on bike frames) and it’s less simple…

Is a Cove Sanchez worth a go? It’s £150 on CRC.

BFe would probably be a good bet though maybe a bit heavy for xc. I went back to my Trailstar from a BFe and I think it jumps better (shorter wheelbase + steeper head angle) whilst being a bit lighter for xc. It could do with a slightly longer top tube for xc though but then that might make the wheelbase too long!

Square tubes you say? Very box like in the head-tube region and stays…

Rigid as a corpse and corners like one

I’d imagine the crash you’d have to have to break one would be somewhere near life threatening.

I REALLY wish I hadn’t seen those cheap Breaths on TBC… I keep having a hankering for a lightish steel XC frame, would really like a Soul but for the price…

    ARGH!

Oh yeah. Like they’re made of lead. Inflexible lead.

I have RM Blizzard as XC bike and BFe as all-rounder; BFe frame only weighs 1lb more than the Blizzard IIRC.

Have you looked at DialledBikes? As they do strong frames, well designed frames.

Orange Pure 7 here. I only have a Spesh Rockhopper to compare it to, but it feels ace, the ride is nicely dampened and it feels like it’ll happily tackle anything.

Cheers guys you have given me so much to think about and OMG, Nicolai 2xmtb looks so hot to me but too expensive.
    Really considering the BFe
But is the cove sanchez a steal at £150 on chainreaction?
