Went to bed before the results of the above, with six goals shortlisted, so didn’t see who won?

Its so difficult to judge as some of the long range goals were amazing, but if I had to choose I’d have gone for Jack Wilshire’s goal….not because I’m a Gooner of course! 😳

Yay! For once Arsenal DID walk it into the goal…..was a thing of beauty!

There were three half way goals Binners and I would have gone for Shelveys as the pick of the bunch.

Keeper could have stopped the Rooney shot if he’d actually kept his eye on it. Bounced in front of the line.

    Shelvey one was better.

Wilshere’s was the best I saw. Proper entertainment.

Thought the one from the Fulham player was the best – sublime technique.

Goal of the season should take account of the circumstances, IMHO. Scoring a pearler to put you 4-1 up against Norwich is not the same as belting the matchwinner in against City in the 89th minute.

Nah…sorry, a great goal is a great goal regardless….otherwise Michael Thomas’s would have been goal of the century!

I love the way the keeper reacts after Wilshire puts the ball past him. 😀

    (thanks for that Jamie!)

People speak about that righteous piece of football to this day – no one will remember a great goal in twenty years time if it didn’t change anything.

Then the goal that wins the world cup will be the one this season even if it is a scruffy effort that bounces in off their arse as they face away from goal
You are confusing great and important basically

no one will remember a great goal in twenty years time if it didn’t change anything.

Trevor sinclairs overhead kick being an example of that principle then

An excellent example for me, seen as I can’t picture it at all and it certainly sounds like a great goal.

You need both, IMO – context and technique. Aguero’s league winner the other year is never ‘goal of the season’, despite the circumstances. But neither is (for example), Rooney’s 40 yarder above.

FFS there are team mates running through to his left there at least 6 or 7 passes to be made from 18 yards out before scoring…amateurs.

    You dont remember Sinclairs goal
How old are you or how new to football? [ Not a dig btw I am genuinely surprised]

I had forgotten that goal, but then probably haven’t seen it for over ten years. it was indeed a corker though!

Just trying it was hopeful in the extreme, but to make that perfect contact was almost one in a million. 😯

The greatest goal can be sublime perfection, like Trev Sinclair’s, but context always plays a role for me.

This is the greatest goal of the PL era (yes, I know it’s in the cup) for me – and I’m a City fan.

Mr Giggs always knew how to score.

….his footballing skills were ok as well.

    *taps mic*

    Is this thing on?
