10mins in and I’m shaking my head at it already 🙄

    http://www.channel5.com/shows/go-hard-or-go-home/episodes/the-doctors-the-bone-breaker

In the first episode, Hannah finds four doctors – people who should know better when it comes to health and fitness – and prepares them for The Bone breaker.
The course of this 127-mile bicycle race runs through the high peaks of the Pyrenees, crossing the Franco-Spanish border twice. The event has around 8,000 entrants, all of whom train 12months a year and consider themselves to be amongst the best cyclists in the world. Hannah has just 12weeks to train her chosen doctors. If things were not difficult enough, Hannah discovers that 38-year-old Dr Matthew Degnan cannot ride a bike. Add to that his love of crisps, chocolate and beer, and he is facing a serious journey just to reach the start line.
Dr John Logan, meanwhile, is nearing retirement at 66. He realises that he will have to put a lock on the wine cellar door and brush the dust off his gym at the bottom of the garden if he wants to be taken seriously as a cyclist. Dr Rabia Osman works long hours as a GP and also does a weekly shift at A&E. How will she find the time to hit the gym and build up those calves? The fourth doctor, 29-year-old Andy O’Brien, feels that it is time to lose the pounds after noticing, while berating an overweight patient, that flab from his own belly was hanging over the desk!

I only managed about 60 seconds… Shame, as i’m sure that, given the chance, Hannah Whatsherface could make some really interesting documentaries.

There is no chance any of them are going to do it in 12 hrs!

Surprised if they even try it IMHO!

That guy who can’t cycle up a hill is going to be in trouble.

Hannah is quite fierce. I like it.

If anything, shows like this will turn people away from cycling as they’ll think it’s too hard, too dangerous and only for people willing to sacrifice the time and effort.

Not really sure what this episode proves TBH.

One of Hannah’s earlier quotes “If you can get up this hill, to can get up all hills “. Eh? You don’t ride a bike much do you love?

Couldn’t bring myself to watch it.

I really dislike tv that takes people into situations they’re going to hate, while I’m thinking, “I’d love for someone to pay for me to go and do that”.

    That was terrible.

John and Andy seemed to have a good time.
Felt a bit sad for Matt as he doesn’t realise what his body can really do.
I’d quite like Hanna to give me some motivation.

@dt78: nah, she hit her head when she fell over at the side of the road. I’ve had a few bonks and been badly dehydrated in a heatwave – only ever felt shakey and/or nauseous apart from the heatwave episode when I felt truly awful. Was never disoriented like her though.

The doctors weren’t the only ones bonking their way to the top.

I can’t watch the vid (geo-restricted) but if they’re talking about doing the Quebrantahuesos cyclosportive then I doubt if any of them will finish.

It’s 198km and 3500m of climbing. If the weather’s bad then it can be Dantéesque on top of the Somport and Portalet. At the front end then it’s ridden as a race by thousands of Spanish and French cyclists, so everyone goes off like a rocket.

while I’m thinking, “I’d love for someone to pay for me to go and do that”.

Apparently you can get a loan from Wonga.
