I seem to have an automatic bike now. I seems to randomly shift gears. Ive checked the mech, its stright and not too worn, lubed the cable again, adjusted it again, but it still shifts every so often. Anything else I should check before junking the mech and cables and replacing them all with new ones ?

Do you ride a FS bike?

If so Id take a peep at the cables tightening as the swingarm flexes if they are too short

    Good luck

Yes, its a whyte 46. The cables are the correct length – same length as they have been for the 4 years Ive been riding it. Old outers, new inners and just lubed them.

New inners + old outers = problems. Not usually worth the couple of quid saved.

Change the cables, inners and outers, before you junk the mech. I binned my shadow mech as it came against the stop at the lowest gear and wouldn’t adjust out of it.

OK, I reckon its time for a new set of outers. I think its the original outer – so its well past its sell by date. Its a normal XR mech.

    Cheers for the advice.
