If they'll let you build something ickle, then you could probably get away with something bigger anyway. Conversely, if they don't like the look of it or it falls outside the rules then – big or small – it ain't happening!

Depends. You can do so much stuff under permitted development, but then you need to get full planning beyond that, also you'd need to do a separate Building Regs application every time.
