    can it be possible to add more to your house but building things in stages rather than one large job in one go.is it possible you can get round planning easier this way?

    If they'll let you build something ickle, then you could probably get away with something bigger anyway. Conversely, if they don't like the look of it or it falls outside the rules then – big or small – it ain't happening!

    I don't believe there is a 'give-an-inch-take-mile' clause in most planning departments' guidelines 😉

    Depends. You can do so much stuff under permitted development, but then you need to get full planning beyond that, also you'd need to do a separate Building Regs application every time.

    I doubt it what are you plannibg to do build a wall a year then suddenly TA DA! look a new kitchen?

    I don't know if it is the same everywhere but I understand that our local council (Harrogate) allow a max of 49% development every seven years

    I prefer it as 98% development over 8 years sounds bigger still
