I'll go and have a go when baby grips is asleep if it's still clear. What do you think about flash? Shall I aim directly, or bounce it off something? Venus perhaps?
Oh btw can you post the full images as well as crops?

Just out of interest, what focal length was that taken at?
300mm on a 450d, so a bit longer as its not full frame
I tried with a 70-300 lens handheld and it didn't come out very well
Gutted, its cloudy here, hence

Might try again latter.
RD, great capture, did you pick a spot away from city/town lighting?
JWR thats amazing
down the garden Ski, not much light polution in the NW Alps
Wow, not far from me either RD (Worcester here) funny how those NW Alps mess with the local weather
it's all in the altitude, down on the flood plain the air is more moist i expect
just went out in swansea. couldnt see it
Here's my effort - don't have a proper tripod, tried to lash the monopod to the balcony but not that good still, so I tried to sharpen it in PS.

Just to demonstrate the effect of the perigee, here's the full shot:

And here's a shot taken last November in the US. This was hand held so excuse the quality, and it's portrat, but you can still see the difference in size:

This is better for comparing:

nice and clear from Surrey. It's as bright as a DX Bastid light also.
My effort from tonight, f/8 at 1/200

One of my better efforts. Just cropped the JPG - didn't bother tweaking the RAW. Still experimenting with exposure.
TT wins so far.
What was it taken on?

My daughters 550D and my Canon 400mm, lets try again to see it
Nice shot jwr, was that taken with a lens or through a scope?
@Tijuana Taxi: 211 images shot through a 9.25" scope. The full image is a 1.2GB monster.
Can you take some more general pics and post them up next to kit lens shots of the same scene, so we can boggle?
14mm vs 4000mm
Boggle away

Mate that is absolutely fantastic
Where can I get me one of these lenses?
PS your garden needs work.
1000mm russian mirror lens. £100 on ebay.
You can come 'round tomorrow and sort the garden out if you like.
I will clear your garden if you give me that lens and the 2x tele.
What fit was the lens anyway? OM?
My effort.
Hand held at 200mm

I saw this, 5e, and thought of you:
5200mm effective. Must be the longest available. And only £269. So tempted!

£269 sounds expensive to me. But I am cheap.
Possibly the best moon of all
