I already have an Edge 200 on the bike and would like a GPS watch for running that links to Garmin Connect so I can track everything in one place.

I’ve been looking at the Forerunner 10 and it appears to do everything I want.

Is the Forerunner 10 a good buy for the money? Are there any better options for similar money (sub £100)?

    In depth review here

It’s his reccommended budget running watch

If you just want it for running and keep it consistent with Connect then yes..or you could always run with the edge 200 in your pocket 😉

If you want it to connect to heart monitors, footpods or to a cadence/speed sensor on your bike…then you’ll need to go up the range.

    The Rainmaker review’s good, thanks

I tried running with the Edge in my pocket and in the top [pocket of a daysack and it doesn’t seem to work consistently if it can’t ‘see’ the sky. A 10 mile loop on the bike shows as 10 miles, the same route on foot with it in my pocket shows as over 11 miles for some reason. The car makes it pretty much 10 miles too.

you could wrist mount the edge 200 with a 310/910xt quick release mount

Edge 500 on the bike, treat myself to a forerunner 10 at Xmas for the same reasons – it does what I need it to. Not fussed about HR etc. Links to garmin connect. Relatively cheap … And They do an orange version 🙂

I was fed up of taking my iPhone to track my runs .

I Wouldn’t be without it now.

    Resurrection…

I’ve been looking at a forerunner 10, and wondered if there’s a way of bike-mounting it, too?

Nothing available commercially, but I know what you lot are like… 🙂

Garmin make a handlebar mount for the Forerunner watches. It is basically a lump of rubber and a couple of zip ties, costs about £10. So you just strap the watch around it. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/garmin-bicycle-mount-kit-generic-/rp-prod44106

Or just use a bit of pipe lagging and zip ties, much cheaper and works fine.

Bought one for my daughter for Christmas and she’s very happy with it. She’s only 12 so needed something small for a little wrist. Does everything she needs and probably more than she’ll want.

I’ve got a 310xt for running, an 800 for the bike and a garmin swim. I picked up a 10 for the wife.
The screen is much smaller so you can’t have multiple data fields on at once and it won’t link to a hrm or cadence sensor. It also won’t do multi sport like the higher models do (any activity you do with the 10 shows IP as a run on garmin connect)
That said, its only £75 and its much less obtrusive on your wrist. If all you want to do is track your runs on GC / runkeeper etc, its a no brainer.

Sounds as though it’ll be just what I want.

Petrieboy, where did you get it from for £75?

Edit – try changing the colour options for different prices. I just checked my link, and the black/red one I bought for £74.99 yesterday now seems to be £81…

Thanks, I’m after an orange one so £80 is pretty good.
