I want to upload a GPX track to navigate using my old Garmin etrex.
I can drag and drop the GPX file on to the SD card, but I can’t get the unit to then map the file. I think the file needs to be on the internal memory, but how do I do that as it is not visible with windows explorer.

BTW, I’m using a laptop on which I do not have admin rights, so I can’t install any software.

    Hey,
It would be useful if you specified which Etrex it is!

Sadly I’m not at my machine right now, and I do always forget how to do this exactly, but I’m pretty sure I need to use the Garmin software to upload the file.

On mine it’s as simple as dropping it into the folder with all the other gpxs that are saved (can’t remember off the top of my head if there are separate folders for routes and tracks) and then it appears in the list of options under routes or tracks respectively.

I’ve just had to do the same thing myself with an Etrex HCX. You will need to use Garmin basecamp which you can download from their website along with the driver.
